How to Write the Perfect About Page
Aside from the Home page, the About page is the next most important page on your website. It also happens to be one of the trickiest to write. A lot of the advice for writing About pages is to make it all about your viewer and how you can help them. And there is some truth to that, but you About page also needs to communicate who YOU are to build a connection. People crave connection and relationships.
Read through the following to learn the essentials to include on your About page.
Share a High Quality Photo
I can’t stress this one enough. All photos on your website need to be high quality, but it is especially important to have a good one of YOU. A single head shot is all you really need, but it is also appealing to have photos of you “in your element” or doing what it is you do. It is always best to have professional photos of yourself for your business marketing, but if that’s not in the budget it’s definitely possible to have a friend help you take a photo of you. Don’t use a selfie!
Introduce Yourself
Who are you and what do you do? Keep this fairly brief and too the point. Also, make sure to include your name! You’d be surprised how many About pages I’ve seen with no name listed!
Tell a Story
Everyone loves a story so tell yours in a way that will appeal to your audience. What led you to where you are now? What struggle did you face and how has it shaped what you’re doing now? Make it compelling and interesting.
What’s Your Mission?
What’s your business goal and mission? Why did you start your business and what do you hope to accomplish through it?
Make it about Them
Now that you’ve shared about you and your mission you want to explain how can you help. What do you offer that allows your clients reach THEIR goals.
Ask for Something
End the page with a call to action. What do you want the visitor to do? Join your email list? Book a call? Follow you on social media? Ask them to do that!
